Adana Museum was founded in 1924, shortly after the Republic was declared, and is one of Turkey's ten oldest museums. Its collection began with column capitals and sarcophagi gathered at a police station, opened to visitors in 1928 in the medrese of the Cafer Paşa Mosque, and moved to the monument museum building at Kuruköprü in 1950.
