Misis Ancient City lies about 27 km east of central Adana, within Yüreğir district. Excavations at the mound have shown that the settlement dates back to around 7000 BC, with occupation continuing through the Chalcolithic, Early Bronze Age, Hittite, Iron Age, Hellenistic, Roman and Medieval periods. Its name is linked to the legend of the Trojan hero Mopsos, who is said to have rebuilt the city, and it is also known as Mopsuhestia. Visiting conditions may have changed since the 2023 earthquakes; check before you go.
