Phaselis

Said to have been founded in the 7th century BC by colonists from Rhodes on a small peninsula reaching into the Mediterranean, Phaselis was an important trading city with three harbours - one to the north, one to the northeast and one on the southwest coast. It welcomed Alexander the Great with a golden crown in 333 BC, was rebuilt under Rome for at least 300 years of prosperity, and was visited by Emperor Hadrian in AD 129. Harbour remains, an agora and a colonnaded street are explored among pine-forested coves.
