Also known as Livane Castle, Artvin Castle is thought to have been built in 937 by the Georgian king Ashot the Great. Repaired and enlarged under Ottoman rule in the 16th century, it was opened to visitors after a 2004 restoration and overlooks the Çoruh Valley with its walls and surviving tower.
