Çine

Çine lies in the fertile Çine plain, watered by the Çine stream (ancient Marsyas), a tributary of the Büyük Menderes. It was one of the few Aegean districts to escape occupation during the War of Independence, after militia forces destroyed the bridges over the Büyük Menderes. Çine and the surrounding area supply a significant share of the world's feldspar.
