Nysa was founded in the 3rd century BC and became known, especially in the Roman period, as an important centre of learning. Its theatre seating 12,000, a library considered one of the best-preserved in Anatolia after the one at Ephesus, and its wide agora surrounded by colonnaded porticoes are its main features.
