Kargı, in northern Çorum, once belonged to Kastamonu province; it became a district in 1936 and was transferred to Çorum in 1953. It is known for Kargı tulum cheese, matured in a leather skin, and the Kargı Bezi weaving tradition; keşkek and sırık kebab are local dishes.
