Çivril is Denizli's third-largest district and lies on the shore of Lake Işıklı, known for its water lilies and the many waterbirds it hosts. The source of the Büyük Menderes river is 10 km east of the district centre. Excavations at the Beycesultan mound have uncovered finds dating back to around 4000 BCE.
