Colossae Ancient City
A mound settlement north of Mount Honaz, one of the important cities of ancient Phrygia.

Colossae was built on the bank of the Aksu stream north of Mount Honaz and, according to Xenophon, was one of the six great cities of Phrygia. It declined after the nearby cities of Hierapolis and Laodicea rose to prominence from the 3rd century BC onward, and was badly damaged by an earthquake in the 1st century AD. Its remains are found on and around the mound that served as its acropolis, with rock-cut chamber tombs to the north of the mound.
