Kale is a forested, mountainous district on the Denizli-Muğla highway, 75 km from Denizli and 80 km from Muğla. It is built over the ancient Carian city of Tabae, close to Aphrodisias, where Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Seljuk-era remains have been found. It is known for high-quality peppers and holds an annual pepper festival.
