Lake Efteni, near Gölyaka, is a tectonic lake placed under protection in 1992, with a wildlife development area established around it in 2005. It and its surroundings host 175 recorded bird species, 11 fish species and numerous amphibians, reptiles and mammals; a significant share of the bird species are considered threatened.
