Otlukbeli is a high plateau district between the provinces of Erzincan and Bayburt. It gives its name to the 1473 Battle of Otlukbeli, in which Fatih Sultan Mehmed defeated the Akkoyunlu ruler Uzun Hasan. Formerly known as Karakulak, it took the name Otlukbeli in 1973 and gained district status in 1990.
