Completed in 537 under the Byzantine Emperor Justinian, Hagia Sophia was the largest domed building in the world for nearly a thousand years. Having served as a church, a mosque and a museum, it has been a mosque again since 2020. Byzantine mosaics and Ottoman calligraphy panels are seen in the same space. Visiting arrangements can change around prayer times.
