Asclepion of Pergamon

The Asclepion is a temple-and-healing complex founded in the 4th century BC outside the Pergamon Acropolis, once one of western Anatolia's most important health centres. Most of what survives dates to renovations carried out in the 2nd century AD under the Roman emperor Hadrian. A one-kilometre colonnaded sacred road (Via Tecta) led to it from the city; the site has a monumental entrance, a library, a 3,500-seat theatre and treatment buildings.
