Karşıyaka

Karşıyaka is a densely populated district on the north shore of İzmir Bay, at the foot of Mount Yamanlar. Opera İzmir, Turkey's first opera house, is located here, and ferries run to the city centre from the Karşıyaka pier near the Bostanlı seafront. The district began to grow after the railway reached it in 1865.
