Araç, whose name is recorded as 'Timanidis' around 1132 BC, is one of Türkiye's oldest districts, holding that status since 1868. It is known for the castles of Araç, Akhisar, Şaban and Erenbaba, and for its wide forests and highland plateaus; a confectioners' and plateau culture festival is held every July.
