Gideros Bay, about 12 km west of central Cide, is a natural harbour separated from the sea by an entrance only about two boat-widths wide. In antiquity it was the site of Kytoros, a city famed for its boxwood; cave and castle ruins survive around the bay. In the Ottoman period it was used for timber transport and shipbuilding.
