Doğanşehir

Doğanşehir lies about 58 km from Malatya's provincial centre, with Akçadağ and Yeşilyurt districts to its north-east. The earliest settlement is believed to have been founded by the Romans around 66 BC; after passing through Byzantine, Arab and Ottoman rule, the area became an independent district of Malatya in 1946. Apricot and apple growing are long-standing, and tobacco cultivation has become significant in recent years. In the February 2023 earthquakes, roughly half of the district's buildings were destroyed or heavily damaged.
