The Mardin Museum stands north of Cumhuriyet Square, among a group of Syriac houses, in a building dated 1895 that was originally built as the Syriac Catholic Patriarchate by the Patriarch of Antioch, Ignatios Behnam Banni. It opened as a museum in 2000 after the collection was moved from the Zinciriye Madrasa. Across three indoor and two outdoor exhibition areas it displays finds spanning the Palaeolithic era to the 19th century.
