Standing in the Taşbaşı neighbourhood within Ordu's urban conservation area, the building was built in 1853 by the Orthodox Christians of the area as a basilica-plan church, with a large apse to the east and two smaller side apses, entirely of cut stone. Since 10 April 2000 it has served as a multi-purpose culture centre.
