Terme, in eastern Samsun on the border with Ordu, is a coastal district thought to be built on the site of ancient Themiskira. Simenlik Lake, recognised by BirdLife International as an important bird area, and the beaches of the Miliç pine forest are its natural highlights; alongside hazelnut and rice production, it is home to the world's second-largest poplar plantation area.
