Erfelek, 25 km southwest of central Sinop, was formed in 1960 by separating from the Salavat subdistrict. The Tatlıca Cascades, made up of 28 separate waterfalls, are the district's symbol, marked by an annual waterfall festival every July; it is also known for its chestnuts and cherries.
