Yıldızeli lies 47 km west of Sivas and is one of the highest districts in Central Anatolia. On the Sivas–Ankara and Sivas–Tokat highways, it is dominated by Yıldız Dağı (2,537 m) and Çal Dağı mountains; the Sıcak Çermik hot spring, 30 km from the town centre, is known for its therapeutic waters. Its former name was Yenihan.
