Kadışehri lies in north-eastern Yozgat, with the Deveci Mountains rising to its north and plains stretching south. The Çekerek River, a tributary of the Yeşilırmak, is the district's main watercourse; its Sunday livestock market is an important regional trading point. It became a sub-district in 1904 and a district in 1990.
