The complex was commissioned by Şehzade Ahmed, governor of the Amasya sanjak, on the order of Sultan Bayezid II, and completed in 1486. Consisting of a mosque, madrasa, soup kitchen, tomb, fountain and şadırvan, it is one of the notable Ottoman complexes of its era with its twin-domed plan.
