Tavas

Tavas is one of Denizli's larger districts; at the Medet mound, one of Anatolia's oldest settlements, traces have been found spanning from the Early Bronze Age to the Turkish period. The region remained under Byzantine control until the 12th-13th centuries and was incorporated into Ottoman territory in 1424. Earthquakes in 1702-1703 killed around 12,000 people, after which the settlement moved to its present centre.
