The Great Mosque of Cizre, in the Dağkapı quarter, is a historic mosque that has come down to us through additions and repairs in different periods. It is held to have been converted from a church into a mosque in the 7th century, and it was rebuilt and repaired in the 12th and 13th centuries. Its round-bodied minaret stands apart from the main building. One of the mosque's bronze door knockers, shaped as dragons, is now displayed at the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in Istanbul.
