The Red Madrasa (Medreseya Sor), in Cizre's Dağkapı quarter, is a complex of madrasa, mosque and tomb built in the time of the Cizre emirate. It takes its name from the red brick used for most of the building. The madrasa has two iwans and an open courtyard surrounded by porticoes. The poet and scholar Melayê Cizîrî (Molla Ahmed-i Cezirî) is believed to have taught here, and one of the graves in the tomb is popularly attributed to him. Restored by the General Directorate of Foundations in 2007, the building is now used as a mosque and Quran school.
