Tomb of Mem and Zin

The Tomb of Mem and Zin lies beneath the Abdaliye (Mir Abdal) Madrasa, which was built on Cizre's city walls, in a vaulted room reached by steps down from the courtyard. It holds three graves believed to be those of Mem, Zin and Bekir. The events of the story are set in the mid-15th century, in the time of Emir Zeynuddin of Cizre, and the love of Mem and Zin became widely known through Mem û Zin, the verse romance written by Ehmedê Xanî in the 17th century. The madrasa, built by Emir Abdal, one of the lords of Cizre, is now used as the Mir Abdal Mosque.
